The role of process mapping and the value stream map method

In a rapidly changing world, companies can respond more effectively by fully understanding their processes.

One effective method for this is process mapping, which involves identifying value, measuring performance, understanding process stages, and verifying communication points.

Developed by Toyota, value stream mapping (VSM) captures the material and information flow in a process. Defined by Rother and Shook in “Learning to See,” VSM is a powerful tool that is easy to manage.

It involves four steps: choosing the product family, drawing the current and future state maps, and defining the work plan to pass from the first one to the second one.
